A special conversation with SPJ Fellow Valeria Fernandez

A special evening with Valeria Verónica Fernandez.  In this intimate event with friends, colleagues and members of SPJ Phoenix and Arizona Latino Media Association, we heard an inspirational conversation from award-winning journalist Valeria Fernández.

She reminded us of the importance to continue sharing our communities' stories, even if they feel like we're repeating history. "We have to be that memory," she pleaded. "Go to the community," she reminded and urged us to remember that's where the true story really is. She encouraged the crowd to "Stay with the story. Follow it when everyone else has forgotten in."

This fall, Fernández will receive the Society of Professional Journalists’ highest professional honor for extraordinary contributions to the profession. Please join us in congratulating Valeria for her extraordinary career.
