ALMA awards 4 students with scholarships
We are proud to announce scholarship awards to four journalism students for the Spring 2023 semester. Roxanne De La Rosa, Jonathan Melendez, Alyssa Munoz and David Ulloa Jr. will receive the scholarships to assist them as they continue their journalism studies at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.
About the winners
Jonathan Melendez is studying sports journalism and will graduate in 2024. He currently works a part time job at Home Depot to pay off his student debt. He works an average of 25 hours a week stocking shelves and helping customers with any questions that they have about products and whereabouts of materials.
Alyssa Munoz is studying journalism and mass communication and will graduate in May 2023. She currently works as a server/hostess for a restaurant named Taco Guild. She works about 25 hours a week, greeting people, managing to-go orders, serving people and other responsibilities.
David Ulloa Jr. is graduating in December 2023 and is a student worker at the Cronkite Equipment Lab. He is responsible for checking in and out camera gear for Cronkite students and provides information and advice on the camera gear that will best fit their needs. He also assists students when they are having trouble with their gear.
Roxanne De La Rosa is studying journalism and mass communication and is an intern at the Arizona Republic. She works about 30 hours a week as the nonprofits reporter. She covers causes that local Arizona nonprofits support, including education, homelessness and support for refugees. She also produces the Storytellers Project live show.
Fundraising like the silent auction at ALMA’s December holiday
celebration helps provide the scholarships. Scholarships range from $500 to $1,000.
