Four young journalists had reason to celebrate at the annual ALMA Holiday Party in early December. They each received scholarships to help them pursue their chosen careers.
At the event ALMA President Nicole Greason introduced Hugo Balta, President and CEO of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), who announced that
Irene Franco Rubio had won the Hortencia Zavala $2,000 Scholarship. Balta created the scholarship in memory of his late grandmother.
Vice President Al Macias announced that ALMA would award scholarships to three students:
-
Alexandra Mora Medina received $1,000
-
Karina Espinoza received $750
-
Marco Peralta received $750.
About 65 members and guests attended the party. Several member candidates had a chance to tell listeners why they were running for seats on the board. A silent auction also raised money for the ALMA scholarship fund.
